New Haven clergy affirm call for equitable state education funding

Nine faith leaders who are signatories of an open letter to the General Assembly called on legislators Thursday to take seriously the ruling Superior Court Judge Thomas Moukawsher made in CCJEF v. Rell.
The nine leaders joined Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now CEO Jennifer Alexander in front of the Amistad Memorial near City Hall in calling for the General Assembly to take immediate action on the way schools are funded. ConnCan is a pro-charter organization.
Moukawsher ruled in September that the state legislature does not fund its schools in a way that provides a minimally adequate education for all students, as is constitutionally required.
Bishop Theodore Brooks, of Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church in New Haven, said the funding of Connecticut schools is “an issue that really affects all of us.”
