Thirteen years ago, ConnCAN opened its doors with the ambitious mission of shining a light on the performance of our state’s education system and securing bold policy reforms to move us closer to the day when all kids receive a high-quality education, regardless of their address.
Your steadfast support for this mission has powered our wins for Connecticut kids, and we should be proud of how much we have accomplished together. But our work is far from done and our state faces some of its biggest challenges yet. That’s why I’m excited to share with you an important step we are taking to position ConnCAN for even greater results in the next chapter of our story.
Starting today, we are adding new strength to our local advocacy campaign by joining forces with 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now. Since its founding in 2011 by former ConnCAN Chief Operating Officer Marc Porter Magee, 50CAN has emerged as a vibrant network of locally led and nationally supported education advocacy campaigns that learn and grow together. By tapping into the shared resources of this nationwide network, we will be able to do even more for Connecticut’s kids.
What does this mean for ConnCAN? Our work will remain focused on the enduring mission of securing the bold reforms our kids deserve, driven forward by our strong local board and local staff. As part of 50CAN, we will also gain access to game-changing resources for communications, research, policy and mobilization in new and exciting ways that have generated results for millions of students, families and teachers across the country.
Our work will remain focused on the enduring mission of securing the bold reforms our kids deserve, driven forward by our strong local board and local staff.
When I step down as ConnCAN CEO later this month, Marc will bring his deep Connecticut roots and national expertise to our work as ConnCAN’s interim executive director, stewarding our efforts through this leadership transition and heading up the search for ConnCAN’s next great leader.
Connecticut is full of potential–but fulfilling that potential means our economic and education systems must adapt to a rapidly changing world that prepares every child for what’s ahead. By taking this step forward, we are ensuring that ConnCAN will continue to adapt and evolve, and to continue serving as the indispensable voice for the educational needs of all our kids.
